FlightPower Battery Balancer Conversion

Only make this lead if you are competent in soldering and have a test meter and have the necessary electrical skils.
Any battery, especially Li-Po's, can be dangerous if misused and will catch fire if shorted out!

Here is the FlightPower Balancer unit with two connection sockets.

The smaller one is used on packs up to 5 cells as used on the Swift battery.

To convert other makes of battery balance leads you can buy the
10 pin IDC lead for up to 5 cells, not 6 cells as used on the 600.

The Align 6 cell battery has a single in-line connector, one cable to each cell plus the negative.
To make the conversion cable you will need the 14 way IDC plug and 14w ribbon cable
and one .1" PCB latching plug, Maplin Pt No RK66 .

Here you see the modifications to the 10 way plug, just use sharp knife.
Just behind the pins you will see a ridge that needs to be removed too.

It should fit nice and tight.
Lead from battery:- Black negative, brown cell 1,yellow 2, green 3 blue 4, orange 5 and red 6.

Here is a standard 14 pin IDC plug, RS components would be one source. Note
key-way and No1 pin marker.

Push 14 way cable in, this is the smoth side without key-way. Line up cable well!

Press together, I used a vice.

Fold over cable and clip top strain relief into place.

Another view.

Sort other end of cable in this order, Black negative, white/grey = cell one etc.
You must put heatshrink sleeving on Maplin Pt No BF86T

Solder, no shorts to the next pin!

Shrink sleeving with heat gun.

With a tested I made sure no two pins were shorting together, you MUST do this as a
short to the battery IS very dangerous!

Here you can see after I connected the battery to a charged pack. After a self test, one cell
needed balancing. This took about 45 seconds and now in future I will attached balancer
before charging as per instructions.
